Gorillas in the Mist – Rwanda Dian Fossey
Gorillas in the Mist is a 1988 Golden Globe awarding winning movie based on the true story of Dian Fossey an American Zoologist. Dian Fossey spent 18 years in the wilderness of Rwanda in the forests of the Virunga ranges studying and protecting the Mountain gorillas.The film was directed by Micheal Apted and produced by Peter Guber,Rick Baker,Tarrence Clegg,Julie Kessler and Robert Nixon.The story was writen on facts noted down by Dian Fossey and the lead roles were acted by Sigourney Weaver,Bryan Brown and Julie Harris.
The motion picture was nominated for 5 Academy Awards in the categories of:Best actress in a lead role,best film editing,best music,best original score and best writing screen play based on another medium.The film portrays Dian Fossey as a Kentucky woman who is inspired to travel to Africa because of her love for the wilderness.On arrival,she completely falls in love with gorillas and dedicates her life to studying and advocating for their rights including a plea to the Rwandan government to illegalise porching.She sacrifices her social life for the gorillas by under-playing an iminent relationship with National geographic photographer Bob Campbell.
Sadly,she is murdered in her cabin room on boxing day of 1985 in cold blood under mysterious circumstances.The movie, is set in the forest foot-hills of Virunga mountains in Rwanda.
