Rwanda Golden Monkey , Silver monkeys
The Golden Monkey rwanda
The Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus kandti) is an Old monkey species found in the Virunga volcanic mountains of East Africa. The Virunga mountains are found in the Albertine hand of the east Afriacn rift valley and are shared by Rwanda,Uganda and DRC Congo. These ranges however consist of four national parks namely: Mgahinga in south-west Uganda, Parc des Volcans in north-west Rwanda and Parc des Virungas in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. It is restricted to highland forest and grassland with bamboo being their favourite delicacy.
Initially thought to be a subspecies of the Blue Monkey (Cercopithecus mitis) because of the similarity of the 2 species, the golden-orange patch on the upper flanks and back of the Golden monkey disputes this. The Golden Monkey inhabits a small area which overlaps the territory of one group of the Mountain Gorilla in the Virunga mountains. However, little is known about the mannerisms of the golden monkey except for the fact that it lives in social groups of usually 30 golden monkeys and that it feeds on fruits and leaves and is also thought to eat insects.
Due to the gradual destruction and rarity of the golden monkey’s habitat in recent wars; in their already limited habitat, the Golden Monkey is an endangered species.
The rwanda Silver Monkeys
The Silver Monkey (Cercopithecus doggetti) is a species of Old World monkey found in East Africa in Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda,Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Silver Monkey was previously considered a subspecies of the Blue Monkey(Cercopithecus mitis).
