Tough Measures Await Reckless Drivers – Police

Following the ever increasing road accidents, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) has said that they are going to introduce tough measures for punishing reckless driving.

The move was announced following an accident in which three people died while other three sustained serious injuries.

The accident involved two cars that collided in Ruyenzi cell, along the Kigali- Butare highway on Wednesday evening April 25.

According to Police sources the fatal accident was a result of careless driving, over speeding and overloading.

Police once again warned the drivers to avoid careless driving and over speeding as they lead to fatal accidents that claim Rwandan lives.

“Drivers have been warned on several occasion about violating traffic regulation but now we are going to apply tougher measures in a bid to curb traffic accidents,” warned Superintendent Theos Badege.

The tough measures include confiscation of driving permits for drivers who attempt to hide their role in accidents that have claim lives among other measures.

Meanwhile Rwanda National Police acknowledged the coordinated rescue efforts conducted by ambulances, hospitals as well as security organs.

It urged road users most especially drivers and motorcyclists observe traffic regulation consequently ensuring that every journey is a safe one.
